TELUS, a leading communications technology company, has announced a 10-year partnership with Calgary Airport Authority to transform YYC Calgary International Airport into Canada’s first airport with high-performance 5G private wireless network.

This groundbreaking collaboration aims to significantly modernize the airport’s digital infrastructure and enhance the overall travel experience.

TELUS’s ultra-fast, low-latency network is poised to deliver consistent, enterprise-grade connectivity across the airport campus, positioning YYC as a pioneer in digital aviation infrastructure. This innovative wireless foundation is expected to streamline airport operations and prepare for future technological innovations.

Megan Gupton, Chief Information Officer at YYC Calgary Airport Authority, stated, “At YYC, we’re focused on the future of travel. We’re proud to partner with TELUS to pioneer this innovative network solution for Canadian air transportation. With accelerated digitalization and the need for modernization of our network, this infrastructure will enhance the travel experience for passengers now and allow us to scale up more effectively to meet future demand.”

Expanding Wireless Coverage Across YYC

TELUS’ cutting-edge solution maximizes its existing airport infrastructure while introducing improved coverage inside and outside the terminal, ensuring broad wireless coverage for all airport users.

Gupton highlighted that unlocking greater productivity, resilience, and sustainability require the latest generation of private 5G networks, noting that fixed connections and Wi-Fi alone lacked the necessary reliability and coverage.

Emphasizing the partnership’s significance to advance Canada’s digital future, Navin Arora, Executive Vice-President at TELUS and President at TELUS Business Solutions, stated, "By implementing the country's first airport-wide private wireless network, we're not just enhancing current operations, we're creating a platform for continuous innovation that will elevate the travel experience and operational efficiency for years to come."

Initial deployment will begin on May 1, 2025, followed by succeeding phases. The private wireless network initiative is expected to set a new benchmark for Canada’s smart infrastructure, strengthening TELUS’s position as a global leader in building world-class networks.
